The Junior Scientific Masterclass (JSM) program needs the opinion of critical students to keep improving its education. The JSM Committee is the ideal place for this. Background

The JSM program was founded in the 1990s by Prof. Dr. Hau The, because he saw value in the early training of medical students in biomedical research. In the meantime, the JSM has grown into a program in which many students participate every year. Given the size of the program, it is also necessary for the student population to take a critical look at the courses offered by the JSM. For this we are looking for a student who can join as of February 1, 2023.

 

Job description

• You meet monthly with the coordinator of the JSM program about matters that concern students in relation to the JSM program and the JSM Honors track.

• You will also become a member of the umbrella participation body of Medicine, ProMed, where you discuss everything about developments in medical education with the other student members of education committees. ProMed meets once every two weeks on Mondays from 20:00-22:00.

• You participate in the Bachelor Meeting Medicine (Bachelor Overleg Geneeskunde; BOG). During the meetings of the BOG you have direct and informal contact with the board of the bachelor. During this consultation, which takes place once every three to six weeks, we discuss points for attention within the entire Bachelor's program and we brainstorm about possible improvements.

• Finally, there is participation in drinks, educational activities and the opportunity to attend national educational conferences.

 

Job requirements

• You want to actively contribute to improving the quality of JSM education and increase your experience within participation (no previous experience required).

• You enjoy working on this in a team, you take initiative and you have good communication skills.

• You can translate input from students about current affairs within the program into relevant points for the JSM and vice versa, and you do this with tact, in a clear manner and at the right time.

• You are in the Bachelor's program in academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, and you are available to consult at least once a month with the JSM coordinator and/or JSM staff members.

 

You will start in February 2023 and the position will in principle last 1 year. The position takes about 4-6 hours per month. Although we give everyone a chance to apply, participation in part of the JSM program is an advantage when applying.

Note that a Dutch level of at least B2 is expected in order to be able to participate in meetings, seeing as the ProMed meetings and BOG are hosted in Dutch. Feel free to elaborate on this in your application!
